Rainbow Hill Development
Rainbow Hill is a comprehensively planned residential development, including single family detached homes, townhomes, and condominiums residences, located on Christmas Hill in Saanich.
MDI completed a Site Adaptive Planning process early on in the design process, which allowed us to identify, illustrate, and inform the client and project team about the intrinsic value of this property, and to seek design solutions that protected – and derived value from – unique site characteristics. This approach saw our team create a Framework Plan, highlighting the development opportunities and constraints from a land-based perspective, which was tested against the architectural, arboricultural, and civil engineering consultants’ design scenarios for the property. The result of this back-and-forth process is a development design that best ‘fit’ the development to the site, while respecting runoff patterns, views, plant communities, soil conditions, and circulation patterns.
One of the first collaborations between Paul de Greeff and Scott Murdoch, this project is one that successfully utilized the Site Adaptive Planning process and led to the formation of Murdoch de Greeff Inc. MDI has completed Re-zoning, Development Permit, through to Building Permit and Construction drawings for Rainbow Hill, providing site grading, stormwater management plans, design guidance for single family homes, and complete construction documents for townhomes and condominium residences.
