INN @ LAUREL POINT
In 2018, Transport Canada removed contaminated soils from the Laurel Point Park and in the process disturbed a substantial portion of the Inn @ Laurel Point lands. All existing landscaping at the hotel including mature trees, pathways, lawn, shrubs and a portion of the hotel’s infamous reflecting pool were removed. Although a major disruption to hotel operations, the Transport Canada remediation project provided an opportunity to refresh and/or replace the aging landscape.
The new landscape designed by MDI includes a kitchen garden, 10,000 square foot reflecting pool with infinity edge, redesigned patios and waterfall feature, and over an acre of new plantings and pathways. The landscape was designed to integrate with existing site conditions and city context, provide enduring value to owners and hotel visitors, reuse existing vegetation (large bonsai pine trees), enhance environmental values and consider long-term maintenance burdens.
MDI provided a full scope of landscape architectural services, including concept design, design development, detailed design, and construction field services.
