THE ATRIUM
The Atrium, achieving LEED™ Gold certification, is an urban project that has a large green roof, an indoor public atrium with a bosque of trees, and the first street level rain gardens in the City of Victoria's downtown core.
MDI developed the landscape design and coordinated construction of the green roof, interior atrium planting, and streetscape rainwater treatment planters. Rainwater that falls on the roof surfaces is managed by intensive and extensive green roofs on the 6th and 7th floors.
The street-level rain gardens accept runoff from municipal roadways, functioning to slow and clean the runoff water while also providing boulevard landscaping that safely separates pedestrian and vehicular traffic and that provides aesthetic and therapeutic value.
