HARBOUR AIR TERMINAL
Harbour Air operates a thriving float plane business with daily departures and arrivals from the Victoria Harbour. Their old shared terminal, located on the waterfront at Wharf Street, was a collection of temporary structures and a small floating terminal building. In 2015, Harbour Air received approval from the City of Victoria to proceed with construction of a new floating terminal building. MDI was engaged to develop concept plans for the removal of the land-based temporary buildings and a complete re-design of the entrance plaza and passenger pick-up/drop-off area. MDI prepared construction drawings for an extensive green roof on the new floating terminal. The plaza concept included gathering spaces and passive viewing areas to facilitate small events and opportunities for views into the harbour - key city objectives for waterfront redevelopments. The concept for the green roof was a graphic representation of wave formations meant to reflect the context of the floating terminal.
