SIEM LELUM HOUSE

Siem Lelum is a joint venture between BC Housing and The Victoria Native Friendship Centre, with support from the City of Victoria.

The project converted a former Traveller's Inn motel building into affordable housing for families. Environmental responsibility, food production, ethnoecology and play were important guiding principles in the design.

The plan features rain gardens that capture and treat all site runoff, an orchard and vegetable garden for food production, kinetic water play area, and plantings based on traditional plant use of the Coast Salish.  The project provides educational and usable spaces to promote lifelong learning and community integration.
