BOWKER CREEK RESTORATION
The Bowker Creek Restoration Project at Oak Bay High School was undertaken during the school rebuilding process and coordinated by the Capital Regional District (CRD). Students from the High School, District of Oak Bay staff, teachers and CRD staff all participated in a one-day design charrette facilitated by MDI and KWL Engineering. This stream restoration project included removing invasive species and substantial fill material from along a 200-metre section of Bowker Creek to facilitate rebuilding stream meanders, opening a terraced floodplain, and planting new riparian species on a moderated slope. An outdoor classroom beside the creek multi-use trail was completed as part of the stream restoration project and provides a nearby outdoor laboratory for the school.
