NIGEL HOUSE
Nigel House, 851 Nigel Ave, Saanich Core, BC V8X 0C1, Canada
Nigel House was designed to support adults with disabilities through an inclusive and restorative landscape that promotes dignity, accessibility, and sensory engagement. MDI Landscape Architects created a network of outdoor rooms that are universally accessible, removing all steps and maintaining gentle grades under 3%. Sensory-rich planting offers seasonal fragrance, texture, and color, while raised planters invite interaction for residents with mobility aids. The design integrates stormwater management through a central rain garden that collects and filters runoff, turning rain events into visual and ecological features. With carefully detailed seating, lighting, and signage, the landscape provides comfort, independence, and opportunities for connection—embodying a holistic approach to care and design
