ONE BEAR MOUNTAIN

2000 Hannington Rd, Victoria, BC V9B 6R6, Canada

Perched at the edge of Bear Mountain’s resort community, One Bear Mountain transforms a steeply contoured site into a series of richly layered outdoor terraces that bridge mountain, forest, and sky. The landscape design amplifies the building’s panoramic setting—framing views toward the golf course below and the distant mountain range —while grounding the architecture in a tactile, naturalized environment.

Stone retaining walls, sculpted planters, and west-coast-inspired plant communities extend the mountain’s ecology up onto the podium and rooftop levels. The result is a sequence of gardens that shift in character—from refined, social terraces with seating, fire features, and pool decks, to quiet, shaded corners defined by ferns, salal, and native evergreens.

Circulation routes are woven carefully through these spaces to balance privacy with connection, giving residents moments of retreat as well as opportunities to gather and engage. The plant palette favours native and drought-tolerant species that echo the surrounding Garry oak and Douglas-fir ecosystems, creating continuity between the built form and its landscape context.

Together, the landscape at One Bear Mountain transforms a high-rise resort into a living extension of the Vancouver Island landscape—immersive, resilient, and unmistakably of its place.
