Scott co-founded MDI in 2007 and brings more than 25 years of experience in landscape architecture, environmental planning and urban design. Before earning his Master of Landscape Architecture at UBC, he worked as a fisheries biologist with the BC Ministry of Environment, Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council and Fisheries and Oceans Canada. This combined background shapes his approach: understand how land and water function, then align development with those systems. As MDI's principal, Scott leads complex projects across health care, housing, parks and public infrastructure, helping teams resolve site constraints early and deliver clear, buildable landscapes.
Scott's training as both a landscape architect and fisheries biologist helps MDI read a site as an integrated system. He connects ecology, grading, water, access and development requirements at the start of a project, when the most important decisions are still flexible. This gives clients practical options, reduces redesign and coordination risk, and helps natural systems become an active part of the project rather than an afterthought.
