NORTH ISLAND COLLEGE

The landscape design grounds students in the landscape of the K’ómoks valley. The water, the trees, and the mountains in the background form the inspiration for the landscape, and drive the layout of the buildings and landscape spaces. The students living in this campus are provided many opportunities to interact with the water in a series of rain gardens, to enjoy the shade of retained and new trees, and to view the splendid K’ómoks glacier in the distance. A thoughtful pedestrian network provides pleasant, nature-filled walks for students as they navigate the campus, while plazas and gathering spaces allow small and large groups of students to gather.
