1515 DOUGLAS STREET
MDI collaborated on urban design for the 1500 block of Douglas Street, opposite Victoria's city hall. The redevelopment project was comprised of two buildings that are home to new office space and a mix of ground-floor retail and commercial uses, which includes significant urban plazas and underground parking.
The project is a AA LEED™ Platinum office and retail building, and MDI's design work was focused on extending the high-quality, sustainable design into the public realm and streetscape.
The public spaces are carefully detailed pedestrian amenities that support the new development in bringing vitality and energy to the area. The streetscape was designed with a 'complete streets' approach and incorporates planting areas designed to support stormwater management of building and road runoff, large trees that will contribute significantly to the downtown urban forest, and separation of pedestrians and cyclists from vehicles.
