TOD FLATS MANAGEMENT PLAN

Tod Creek Flats is a small agricultural lowland located in the District of Saanich that also serves as a flood plain of Tod Creek. MDI worked with a group of property owners, local government, and environmental stakeholders to develop an integrated framework plan for the flats.

Researching and chronicling the history of land use at Tod Flats helped to build a successful strategy for land restoration. Long term effects of land use (i.e. drainage modifications, land use changes, and vegetation management) were documented, which built a shared understanding and appreciation for issues and acceptance of a collective approach to land management.

The framework plan takes a holistic view of landscape where agriculture, wildlife habitat, aesthetic values, and flood control all have a bearing on design.
