1515 DOUGLAS STREET
MDI is collaborating on urban design for the 1500 block of Douglas Street, opposite Victoria's city hall. Presently in the schematic design stage, the redevelopment project is comprised of two buildings, to be constructed in separate phases, that will be home to new office space and a mix of ground-floor retail and commercial uses. Both phases of work will include significant urban plazas, and underground parking.
The project is anticipated to target LEEDTM Gold or Platinum certification, and MDI's design work will be focused on the extending high-quality, sustainable design into the public realm and streetscape.
The public spaces will be carefully detailed pedestrian amenities that will support the new development in bringing vitality and energy to the area. The streetscape will be designed with a 'complete streets' approach and will incorporate planting areas designed to support stormwater management of building and road runoff, large trees that will contribute significantly to the downtown urban forest, and separation of pedestrians and cyclists from vehicles.
